EZ30 SWAP CONVERSIONS

2003-2014 EZ30R/EZ36

AGT Engineering has been providing Subaru wiring conversion solutions for 25 years, including EZ30/36 wiring solutions for over 15 years. From Stand alone harness modifications for EZ30/EZ36 into old VW or Porsche, through to EZ conversions into other model Subaru's. This page outlines general information on the swap and gives a few examples of different ways to go about the harness modifications.

Wiring services are normally completed using a customer supplied loom. Once a loom is received and options specified (Instrument Cluster, Air conditioning, cruise control functionality), it is stripped and the non engine related wires removed. most of the wires are contained between the Engine Computer (ECU), the main engine plugs and engine related ancillaries. Depending on the options, there are about 10 wires that are left loose requiring connection by the customer when the loom is installed. These include the power, engine ignition power, grounds, temperature gauge, tachometer, oil and check engine lights etc. There are also two wires required to trigger the radiator fan relays. These wires are coiled up, labelled and highlighted in the wiring diagram schematic supplied.

Note that some wires depending on the end application will require lengthening to reach their desired locations, the wiring lengths provided are the largest length obtained from the original wiring loom.

If a different model engine wiring is required to be integrated into an existing Subaru vehicle loom, both looms are needed and a complete plug&play converted loom is provided that plugs back into the vehicle, with the new engine and ECU wiring.

AGT Engineering has provided wiring looms for Subaru motors into classic model VW Beetle's, Kombi's, Dune Buggies and Kit-Cars for both Australian customers and customers worldwide.

We also do wiring looms for other branded vehicles, including but not limited to VW, GM, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Mazda.

Our new interface box tidy's up the looms even further and provides an easy and neat installation into the vehicle. Our interface box can be purchased separate or integrated into our looms.  For further details have a look at the manual in the link below or view the item in the web shop.

Basic stand alone costs $900 which includes a 6way fuseblock, labelled wires and the ECU modified to remove the immobiliser and error codes removed from the tune to suit stand alone. For this, we just need a section of the EZ30R body loom and ECU (see photos).

Alternatively we can do a loom merge. For this you send in both the EZ30R body harness and the original vehicle body harness. With this service, we remove the engine related wiring from both harnesses and transplant the EZ30 related wiring into the original vehicle wiring. The harness will then mostly plug back in to the vehicle and the EZ Engine. This usually ends up double the price ($1800) due to the extra time involved.

Some notes however:

The EZ30 runs a variable speed fuel pump controller and variable speed radiator fan controller. The Pump controller is in the rear harness, so to install this you will need to splice it in to the impreza rear harness and run two control wires from the EZ30 harness to the rear controller. If you don’t put the pump controller in, then the pump runs all times the key is on (even if engine stalled).

Similarly with the radiator fans (speed controller is mounted to the EZ30R radiator). If the speed controller isn’t installed, then the fans will run all the time with ignition. Some of the rally guys are ok with this. Or you can install your own thermoswitch to turn the fans on/off.

You may require a Canbus emulator to get a speed signal (or fake speed signal) to remove a 4.5-5k rev limit if the ecu doesn’t see a speed signal I put an emulator plug on the harness regardless so it can be added later if required. The rev limit may also be able to be removed in the tune. The speed signal is recommended if this is to be a road car as it drives a bit smoother knowing the correct speed. If for a race/rally car then does not really matter.

What part of the wiring harness do you need to send in?

The main section you need to send in for modification is the body harness. This is the main section of harness that runs from the front Engine-Bay fusebox, to the interior fusebox. It also includes most of the wiring under the dash, including the Engine ECU wiring. It also includes the wiring to the Engine plugs (through the firewall grommets), engine relays, pedal plug and MAF (Mass Airflow) plug. We do not require the whole harness, but just the main sections with the engine related wiring. If you are sending your harness in, you can do some preliminary cutting to save on weight. The entire body harness weighs about 15kg. You can cut out approximately 10kg yourself, which will save on postage costs. The following photo shows what you can cut off yourself (crossed out in RED). Important plugs which must not be cut off are highlighted GREEN. If you are not sure, it will be safest to leave intact.
